  4                  An Act relating to environment and natural resources;
 
  5                  amending 27A O.S. 2001, Section 2-6-310.3, which
 
  6                  relates to groundwater protection education programs;
 
  7                  clarifying statutory language; and providing an
 
  8                  effective date.
 
  9     BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
 
 10           SECTION 1.     AMENDATORY     27A O.S. 2001, Section 2-6-
 
 11     310.3, is amended to read as follows:
 
 12           Section 2-6-310.3  A.  The Department of Environmental Quality
 
 13     shall develop and implement a groundwater protection education
 
 14     program.  In developing [such] the education program, the
 
 15     Department shall consult with public health agencies, water
 
 16     utilities, state educational and research institutions, nonprofit
 
 17     environmental organizations and any other person or agency the
 
 18     Department deems necessary.
 
 19           B.  The Department shall develop a program to provide public
 
 20     recognition of users of land located within a public groundwater
 
 21     supply wellhead protection area who demonstrate successful and
 
 22     committed efforts to protect drinking water supplies by implementing
 
 23     innovative approaches to groundwater protection.  [Such] The
 
 24     recognition program shall also promote groundwater protection

  1     through education of members of businesses and industry and the
 
  2     public.
 
  3           SECTION 2.  This act shall become effective November 1, 2007.
